Review: BabeLicious Flavoured Lubes in Dulce de Leche and Mojito Peppermint

BabeLicious lubes

BabeLiciousis a collection of flavoured water-based lubes from Babeland.  The 2oz tubes come in inventive and delectable-sounding flavours: dulce de leche, mojito peppermint, pomegranate vanilla, and chocolate orange.

What really sets these taste treats apart is that unlike most flavoured lubes on the market, BabeLicious lubes are both glycerin- and paraben-free . Glycerin-free, because you want to avoid yeast infections, and paraben-free, because you want to be wary of the potentially deleterious health effects of these little devils.

We tried out the dulce de leche and the mojito peppermint flavours. Both had a delicious smell straight out of the tube, sharper and more intense than the actual food items they’re named for, and also more intense than the typical sugary flavoured lube. Dulce de leche was the strongest-smelling, filling the room with notes of caramel and syrup, while the mojito peppermint was fresh and minty, but only smellable close-up. Where the first smelled like a scented candle was burning nearby, the second was more like smelling your partner chewing a piece of minty gum.

Speaking of chewing, the taste test was a bit of a surprise: while both lubes had a distinct smell, the taste was very subtle. It might be more accurate to describe these as scented rather than flavoured lubes.

The consistency of the BabeLicious lubes is like a thin jelly. A little bit more of it is needed than if you were using a silicone-based lube, but it’s easy to apply and lasts well. It did feel slightly sticky at times, but did not leave any sticky residue behind when it dried or wore off.

The thicker consistency also means that the lube will not be runny if you knock it over. We’ve had several lube-all-over-the-furniture-and-into-electronic-devices mishaps in past with slipperier lube that seems to slither out of the bottle. No such worries with the BabeLicious.

There was no irritation of delicate tissue with these lubes, and they cleaned up well. And of course, being water-based means they’re safe to use with silicone toys, which is a big advantage.

Those looking for a flavoured lube to mask the taste of oral sex or to be generally delicious in the mouth might not find what they’re looking for with these lubes. But we found the appeal of the BabeLicious line to be that they’re quality water-based lubes with a bit of extra fun thrown in. If you’re going to use lube already, why not engage more of the senses by adding appealing smells into the mix? We’ll be keeping the dulce de leche especially close at hand for this purpose.
